FAQ
Questions, answered.
What to expect, what to prepare, and how booking works.
What does CQS do?
We calibrate home theater audio, from living rooms to dedicated cinemas, and we start by measuring what your room and system are actually doing. Changes are guided by those measurements, written down, and checked again afterward.
What is the free virtual walkthrough?
It is a free 30-minute conversation by FaceTime, or a review of a short video you send of your room and system. We talk through what you are hearing and what you want, and point out what looks worth checking. Nothing is measured remotely, so it is not a diagnosis. If it makes sense, the next step is an on-site System Health Check.
Do I need to buy anything first?
No. We work with the equipment you already own. If a consultation shows that an upgrade would help, we say so and explain why. Equipment is quoted separately at actual cost, and you are welcome to supply your own.
What is the difference between the Health Check, Soundbar Setup and the Consultation?
The Health Check is a one-hour professional checkup of your settings and setup, with recommendations on the spot. Soundbar Setup is hands-on setup of a soundbar you own, balanced by ear. The Consultation and Baseline Measurement brings the measurement microphone, captures real data at your main listening position, and delivers a written summary. The first two do not include measurement or a written report.
What should I have ready for my visit?
The model names of your equipment, or photos of the labels. Photos of your room and setup. Where you normally sit. The apps and logins you use for your streaming and your soundbar or receiver. And a scene or song that sounds wrong to you.
Will I get a written report?
The Consultation includes a written summary of measured performance and observed constraints. Calibration packages include a full report with before-and-after measurements, settings and filter files. The Health Check and Soundbar Setup give recommendations on the spot, with no written report.
Can you promise how it will sound?
No. We measure, change what the data points to, and measure again. Results depend on your room and your equipment, and we do not guarantee a subjective outcome. What we do promise is to show you what we measured and what we changed.
Which room-correction systems do you work with?
We use Dirac Live, and we can set up and check the room correction built into many receivers and processors, such as Audyssey MultEQ, Anthem ARC and Yamaha YPAO, depending on what your equipment includes. Whichever system you have, we measure with REW before and after, so you can see what changed. Where you have more than one subwoofer, we use multi-sub tools such as Multi-Sub Optimizer with miniDSP. Ask us about yours.
How does the deposit work?
A $40 non-refundable deposit is collected when you book and applied to your service price. The balance is due on the appointment date. You may reschedule once without losing your deposit. If CQS cancels, your deposit is refunded or moved to a new date.
Where do you work?
Within 30 miles of Jonesboro, Georgia, with travel included. Beyond that, travel is $1 per mile, one direction, set at booking.
